My Recipe Quest

Have you all seen that new movie, Julie and Julia, advertise? If not, the basic premise is this:

It's a true story about a woman who made a goal to cook her way through over 500 recipes in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking in one year! Pretty daunting! I'm reading the book right now, and it's fun to read about some of the crazy things she had to cook - and how often she had to cook to get through it all in a year!!

Well, it sounded like a fun project, so I thought I'd borrow (rip off, steal, etc) the idea! However, I'm not quite as ambitious, so I'm adjusting it a little. First, French cooking isn't my favorite, so I decided to go more modern Italian. I'll be using Giada De Laurentiis' newest book, Giada's Kitchen. There are 100 recipes. I will skip the few alcoholic beverages, and I will also allow myself 5 vetoes of other recipes I don't want to cook. Hey, I'm the boss of this project - I can make up my own rules!

I'm starting tomorrow, August 1, 2009. I plan on finishing on or before July 31, 2010. Yay! Check back here to read about my quest, see some pictures of what I'm cooking and maybe I'll share a recipe or two. Enjoy!!

  1. I'm so excited about your project!! I am so excited to see the movie and have been cooking more lately as a result. I'm not quite as ambitious, so I'm just going to be trying to cook more! P.S. Do you like Giada? She's a little too much for me, but her food is probably delicious!
    Good luck Laura!

And I agree with amanda about Giada. She kind of drives me crazy. But her food always looks divine.

  4. I actually agree with you about Giada. I'm not necessarily a fan of her show, but I like that she makes simple, modern Italian food. So far, so good!

And...P.S...there's a recipe in the book for a panini with chocolate in it. You've got to love her for that!!
